Every Door. Every Window. Covered.
UniFi's new Protect alarm system, built around the Alarm Hub and the wireless SuperLink sensor family, changes what a modern home alarm can be. Best of all, it is a self monitored alarm system with no monthly fees, unless you choose to add professional monitoring. VIP Smart Homes is an authorized UniFi partner, and one of the few integrators in the Pacific Northwest installing it the right way.
We do more than mount a panel. We design the full intrusion plan, place every sensor for complete coverage, integrate the alarm with your cameras, lighting, and locks, and set up monitoring the way you want it.
UniFi Builds the Hardware. We Engineer the System.
UniFi makes excellent security hardware, but an alarm system is only as good as its design. Sensors placed where they miss the real entry points. Entry delays that lock you out or let an intruder walk straight in. A glass break sensor mounted too far from the glass. A system that was never tuned to the property.
VIP Smart Homes approaches every alarm installation with a full intrusion assessment, a deliberate sensor plan, careful placement and configuration of every device, and a calibration pass that confirms every sensor, relay, and camera trigger behaves exactly as it should. Where a property has hardwired zones, we terminate and supervise those properly too.
One Platform. Every Layer of Protection.
A UniFi alarm system lives entirely inside UniFi Protect, with no licensing fees for self monitoring. Most of it is wireless. The SuperLink sensor family is battery powered, with up to 6 years of life per sensor, and communicates back through the SuperLink Gateway over a range of more than 6,500 feet, far enough to cover outbuildings and detached structures with no cabling at all. The Alarm Hub adds 32 hardwired zones for properties that have, or want, wired intrusion sensors. The lineup also includes a Relay module for automating chimes, gates, and water shutoff valves, and a High-Gain Antenna for reaching distant structures. We specify the right mix for your property and install every piece cleanly.

How the Motion Sensor Works
The SuperLink Motion Sensor is fully wireless and a good example of how the sensor family works. It detects, it mounts in minutes, and it runs for years on a single battery.
Dual PIR Detection
Two passive infrared sensors, one horizontal and one vertical, watch the room together. The vertical sensor has built-in pet immunity, so a dog or cat moving below it will not trip the alarm.
Mounts in Minutes
With no wires to run, the sensor goes up fast. The included brackets let you stick it on with adhesive or fix it with screws, flat against a wall or in a corner, wherever the coverage is best.
Years on One Battery
A single CR123A lithium battery powers the sensor for up to 6 years. Once it is placed and adopted into Protect, it is essentially fit and forget.
Every Sensor Placed With Intent
We walk the property before specifying a single sensor. Entry points, motion paths, glass exposure, and any existing wiring are all mapped before installation begins.
Most SuperLink sensors are wireless, so placement is everything. We position each one for full coverage of doors, windows, motion paths, and glass. Where a property uses hardwired zones, those are terminated and supervised correctly as well.
We integrate the alarm with the rest of the home. Using Alarm Manager webhooks and an automation hub such as Home Assistant, a sensor trip can switch on your Lutron lighting, run a Control4 scene, and start cameras recording, all at once.

Self Monitored or Professionally Watched
The alarm does not lock you into a monitoring contract. You choose how the system responds when a sensor trips, and you can change your mind later without swapping any hardware.
Self Monitoring Included
Built into UniFi Protect with no monthly fee. When a sensor trips, you get an instant push notification, an email alert, or a webhook trigger to the platform of your choice. You see the camera view tied to that sensor and decide what happens next. Full control, license free.
Professional Monitoring by Noonlight
UniFi Monitoring powered by Noonlight adds 24/7 professional response. It activates from the Protect dashboard with no engineer visit and no long term contract. If an alarm triggers and is not cleared, a trained Noonlight agent reaches out to confirm, and dispatches emergency services if the threat cannot be ruled out.
Already running UniFi Protect cameras? The alarm maps every sensor to a camera, so a tripped sensor pulls up live video, and a PTZ camera can pan straight to the source. If you have not built the camera side yet, we install UniFi Protect camera systems as the visual half of the same platform.
Common Questions About the UniFi Alarm System
What is the UniFi Protect Alarm Hub?
The Alarm Hub is the wired control panel for UniFi's Protect alarm platform. It provides 32 hardwired zone inputs for dry-contact intrusion sensors, two programmable relay outputs, tamper detection, and battery backup, all powered over a single PoE++ cable. Alongside the wireless SuperLink sensors, it lets one UniFi alarm system cover both modern wireless devices and traditional hardwired zones in a single app.
Is the UniFi alarm system wireless or wired?
Mostly wireless. The SuperLink sensors, including the Entry, Motion, Glass Break, and Environmental sensors, are battery powered and communicate over UniFi's long-range SuperLink wireless to the SuperLink Gateway, so there is no cabling to run to each sensor. The Alarm Hub is the wired part of the system. It exists for properties that already have, or specifically want, hardwired intrusion zones.
Can the Alarm Hub reuse my existing hardwired sensors?
Often, yes. The Alarm Hub has 32 wired zone inputs that accept standard dry-contact intrusion devices, the door and window contacts, PIR motion detectors, and glass break detectors found in most existing hardwired systems. In a retrofit, the Alarm Hub takes the place of the old panel, and the existing sensors and cabling are terminated into its zones. Each zone uses an end of line resistor, with a 1 kΩ resistor included and 1 to 5.6 kΩ supported, so the wiring stays supervised, and powered sensors such as PIRs draw 12V from the hub's auxiliary power outputs. Proprietary or addressable sensors that only talk to one brand of panel are the exception and may need replacing, so we begin with a site assessment to confirm what carries over.
Does the system require a monthly subscription?
No. Self monitoring is built into UniFi Protect with no monthly fee and no licensing cost. You get push notifications, email alerts, and webhook triggers at no charge. Professional monitoring through Noonlight is entirely optional, and only added if you want 24/7 agent response.
How does professional monitoring through Noonlight work?
UniFi Monitoring powered by Noonlight is a plug and play service activated from the Protect dashboard. There is no engineer visit and no long term contract. When an alarm triggers and is not cleared, a trained Noonlight agent contacts you to verify the situation. If the threat cannot be ruled out, the agent dispatches emergency services on your behalf.
What happens if my internet connection goes down?
An IP based alarm is only as reliable as its connection. Pairing the system with the SuperLink High Availability Gateway adds automatic cellular failover, so alarm notifications still reach you and the monitoring service even if your broadband drops. The Alarm Hub's battery backup also keeps a wired system armed through a power outage.
Can the alarm trigger my cameras, lights, and shades?
Within UniFi Protect, every sensor maps to a camera, so a trip instantly surfaces live video and a PTZ camera can pan to the source. Reaching beyond UniFi, into Lutron lighting, shades, or a Control4 system, is done through Alarm Manager's webhook output, which we bridge with an automation hub such as Home Assistant. UniFi Connect also links directly to Lutron HomeWorks and RadioRA processors. These integrations are programmed and tested as part of the install.
Do you provide support after installation?
Absolutely. Every alarm installation includes our standard warranty, and our monthly support plans add 24/7 priority access, firmware updates, sensor and sensitivity adjustments, and ongoing system health checks.
