Where whole-home audio once meant a stack of individual Sonos Amps, the Amp Multi delivers eight amplified outputs, each independently configurable for stereo or mono and assignable to any of four zones. Powering eight rooms of architectural speakers now takes two of these instead of eight separate amps, at a lower cost per zone and a fraction of the rack space.
8 x 125W of Clean Power
Eight outputs at 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms, all channels driven. GaN amplification with post-filter feedback delivers vanishingly low distortion (0.005 percent) and a 114dB signal-to-noise ratio, with stable performance down to 2.67 ohms for Sonos Architectural speakers.
Silent, Fanless Design
Convection cooled with no fans at all, and just 5.4 watts of idle draw. It runs cool and quiet even when stacked, which matters when your equipment rack lives near living space.
ProTune Precision
A 10-band parametric EQ, gain trim, delay, and highpass filtering on every output. We dial in each room individually, and the Optimize Sonos Speakers profile applies custom DSP tuned specifically for Sonos Architectural speakers.
Four Streams at Once
Stream up to four different sources simultaneously from the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, or Spotify Connect. Jazz on the patio, a podcast in the office, and the kids' playlist upstairs, all at the same time from one unit.

For you, nothing gets more complicated. Every zone appears in the Sonos app as its own room, groupable with every other Sonos speaker in the house. And through Control4 and Lutron integration, one keypad tap still starts the music, sets the volume, and dims the lights.

One Thing to Know: The Amp Multi Is for Music Zones, Not TV Zones
The Amp Multi has no HDMI input, by design. It is a distributed audio workhorse, not a home theater amplifier. For any room where architectural speakers carry TV audio, we still specify the standalone Sonos Amp, which connects to the TV over HDMI ARC. Most of our whole-home designs combine both: an Amp Multi handling the music zones and a Sonos Amp (or a soundbar like the Arc Ultra) handling each TV. We map this room by room during your design consultation so every space gets the right hardware.

Can the Sonos Amp Multi connect to my TV?
No. The Amp Multi has no HDMI input; it is built for distributed music zones, not home theater. For rooms where in-wall or in-ceiling speakers carry TV audio, we specify the standalone Sonos Amp, which connects to your TV over HDMI ARC. In most whole-home designs we combine the two: an Amp Multi for the music zones and a Sonos Amp or soundbar for each TV.
Should I get the Amp Multi or individual Sonos Amps?
It depends on the design. For four or more zones of music-only architectural speakers, the Amp Multi wins on cost per zone, rack space, and heat. For a single room, a TV zone (HDMI ARC), or speakers that need more than 125 watts per channel in stereo, the standalone Amp is the right tool. We map this out room by room in your design consultation, and most larger homes end up with both.

What is Trueplay and does it matter?
Trueplay measures the acoustics of your specific room and adjusts the speaker's EQ to compensate for surfaces, dimensions, and furnishings. It is the single biggest factor in how good a Sonos system sounds. And it is the step most self-installations skip. On the Amp Multi, the equivalent is ProTune, a per-output parametric EQ suite we calibrate room by room during installation.
Can Sonos work with in-wall and in-ceiling speakers?
Yes. The Amp Multi powers up to four zones of passive architectural speakers (in-wall, in-ceiling, outdoor) from one rack unit, and the standalone Sonos Amp does the same for single zones and TV zones. Does Sonos integrate with Control4 and Lutron?
Yes. We integrate Sonos into both Control4 and Lutron so music responds to your automation scenes. A keypad button can start music, set volume, and select the source (alongside lighting, shades, and climate), all in one tap.
Can I use Sonos outdoors?
Sonos itself does not make a weatherproof speaker, but the Amp Multi and Sonos Amp power outdoor-rated architectural speakers from brands like Sonance, including the co-developed Sonos Outdoor by Sonance line. These are designed for year-round exposure and integrate seamlessly with the rest of your Sonos system. We install these regularly for patios, pools, and outdoor entertaining areas across the Seattle area.
