Lighting Control Without Compromise
For more than two decades, HomeWorks has been the lighting control platform behind the world's most ambitious residences. The current generation, HomeWorks QSX, is the most capable system Lutron has ever built. It supports up to 10,000 zones across 50,000 square feet, brings Lutron's full catalog of intelligent lighting and motorized shades together under one platform, and connects natively to the broader smart home through Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, Josh.AI, and more.
VIP Smart Homes is an authorized HomeWorks dealer. We design the system, specify every keypad and fixture, program the scenes and schedules, and integrate the platform into your broader smart home. Whether you're building a new estate, renovating an existing one, or upgrading from a legacy HomeWorks Illumination or QS system, HomeWorks QSX is the foundation we recommend for every luxury project.
If you're comparing HomeWorks against RadioRA 3 or other systems, the short version is this. RadioRA 3 is a fantastic system for most homes. HomeWorks is what you specify when the home, the lighting design, or the client demands the absolute best Lutron makes. See our full Lutron lineup.
One Keypad. Endless Scenes.
In a typical home, every light circuit has its own dimmer at the wall. Five circuits in the great room means five toggles. Eight in the kitchen means eight. The wall becomes a control panel covered in plastic switches, and even the homeowner can't remember which one does what.
HomeWorks works completely differently. Every dimmer in the house lives on centralized panels in a low voltage closet. The walls in your living spaces hold one elegant keypad with engraved buttons that say what they actually do. Energize. Relax. Dinner. Movie. Goodnight. One press fades the chandelier, brings up the cove lighting, dims the cans to fifteen percent, raises the table accent, closes the shades, and sets the room exactly the way you want it.
Every room gets its own personality, programmed once, recalled forever. The clutter goes away. The experience takes its place. Explore keypad finishes and colors.
Programming That Goes Beyond On and Off
HomeWorks programming is what separates this system from every other lighting platform. Where most systems give you on, off, and dim, HomeWorks gives you a programming language for how a home should behave.
Scenes recall multiple loads at preset levels with custom fade times. Movie scene fades the chandelier over three seconds, dims the cans over five, drops the sconces to eight percent over eight seconds, and ends with the cove lights at two. Every fade ramped to feel cinematic instead of abrupt.
Conditional logic adds intelligence. "Run the goodnight scene only if no one is in the kids' rooms." "Trigger the welcome scene only between sunset and midnight." "If the security system is armed and motion is detected, flash the exterior lights for thirty seconds." Real time rules HomeWorks evaluates in the background.
Sequences chain events with delays. The wake up sequence at 6:30 AM raises the bedroom shades over two minutes, brings up the lights at 1500K over five, ramps to 3000K over the next ten, and transitions to full daylight by 7 AM. The system handles the choreography. You wake up to a sunrise that doesn't depend on the weather.
Press and hold dimming, phantom buttons, and dynamic time clocks round out a programming environment that gives us the tools to build experiences no off the shelf system can match.
From Illumination, From QS, From Standard Dimmers
If you have an older Lutron HomeWorks system, you don't have to rip everything out to move to QSX. Lutron designed the upgrade path carefully, and most existing wiring, keypads, and fixtures can come along.
HomeWorks Illumination owners (the 1990s through 2010s generation with H48, D48, Q96, and similar legacy link types) typically replace the processor and dimming panels with QSX equivalents. Many existing keypads can be reprogrammed onto the new system. The benefit is enormous. Native LED+ dimming on every circuit, cloud backup, app control, and Ketra plus Rania plus Lumaris compatibility the older system can't touch.
HomeWorks QS owners have it easier. QSX is fully backwards compatible with QS components. The HQP7 processor drops in where the HQP6 sat, the QS link runs to existing dimming panels and keypads without rewiring, and most installations keep all their hardware while gaining cloud connectivity, faster processing, and modern app control.
Standard line voltage dimmers are a more involved retrofit. Centralized panels live in a low voltage closet, and low voltage runs go to each keypad location. Existing line voltage runs to fixtures stay in place. We assess every retrofit during the consultation and provide a clear scope before any work begins.
Phased upgrades are common. Upgrade the master suite this year. Add the kitchen and great room next. Bring on the wing addition the year after. HomeWorks scales with your project schedule and your budget.
The Lutron App. Time Clocks. Voice Control. Anywhere.
The Lutron App turns every iPhone, iPad, and Android device into a complete keypad. Any light, any shade, any scene, anywhere in the world. Forgot to turn off the basement before you left for the airport? Open the app, tap All Off. Driving home late? The app shows you which lights are on and lets you preset the welcome scene before you pull into the driveway.
Time clocks are where HomeWorks really shines. Schedules can run by clock time, but the better way is by sun event. Living room lights come up thirty minutes before sunset, every day, automatically adjusted across every season. Outdoor and accent lighting fades to fifty percent at sunrise and off at midnight. The wake up sequence in the master bedroom starts at 6:30 AM with shades raising and Ketra warming from candlelight to daylight over fifteen minutes. None of this requires you to remember anything. The system just runs.
Voice control works through Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri via HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Josh.AI. Say "Alexa, dinner scene" and the entire dining room transforms. Say "Hey Siri, goodnight" and the house puts itself to bed.
Lutron Connect, the cloud platform for installers, lets us push programming changes from our office without ever visiting your home. Need a new scene added next week? We do it from here, you see it on the keypad next time you press the button.

Native drivers for Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, URC, and Josh.AI. Audio integration with Sonos, Bluesound, and Bang & Olufsen. Security with Alarm.com and Honeywell. HVAC with CoolAutomation and Airzone. Voice with Alexa, Siri (via HomeKit), and Google.
Cloud Backup and Service
Lutron Connect backs up your entire system database to the cloud automatically. We push program changes remotely without home visits. Auto updates keep the system current. If a processor ever needs replacement, the database restores in minutes.
Why Centralized Control Changes Everything
A traditional home with high end fixtures, fancy LED bulbs, and a wall full of dimmers still feels like a traditional home. The lights are on or they're off. Maybe they're dim. There's no orchestration. HomeWorks is what turns those same fixtures into an experience.
One small keypad replaces five, six, or eight wall dimmers in a single room. The visible technology gets out of the way of the design.
Each room gets its own programmed personality. The kitchen has Cooking, Cleanup, and Dinner Party. The primary suite has Wake, Read, and Goodnight. The walls reflect how you actually live, not which circuit goes where.
Centralized panels with proper LED+ dimming eliminate the buzz, flicker, and drop out you get with cheap dimmers paired against the wrong fixtures. Even at 0.1% brightness.
Programming changes happen from our office through Lutron Connect. New scenes, button reassignments, schedule edits. We push the change, your keypad updates the next time you walk by.
Add Ketra to the dining room next year. Add Palladiom shades to the addition in three years. Bring on the new wing in ten. The system grows with the home, no rip and replace.
HomeWorks is the lighting control language luxury buyers recognize. A real estate listing that mentions HomeWorks, Ketra, and Palladiom signals a property built without compromises. The system holds value because the platform holds value.

Common Questions About Lutron HomeWorks
What's the difference between HomeWorks and HomeWorks QSX?
QSX is the current generation of HomeWorks, launched by Lutron in 2019 and continuously updated since. The HQP7 processor at its heart has eight times the processing power and sixteen times the memory of the previous HQP6. It backs up project databases to the cloud, auto updates over time, and integrates Ketra natively rather than requiring a separate gateway. When people say "HomeWorks" today, they almost always mean QSX. Older HomeWorks Illumination and HomeWorks QS systems can typically be upgraded to QSX with most existing keypads and dimming hardware retained.
Should I do HomeWorks or RadioRA 3?
RadioRA 3 is wireless only, supports up to 200 devices, and uses the Sunnata keypad family. It's the right choice for most homes, including most luxury homes. HomeWorks is what you specify when you want centralized wired dimming panels, the designer keypad families (Palladiom, Alisse, Aviena), Ketra or Rania fixtures, wired Sivoia shades, or scale beyond 200 devices. We walk through this decision with every client during the initial consultation.
Do Ketra, Rania, and Lumaris really work with HomeWorks?
Yes, all three are native to HomeWorks QSX. Ketra integrates through the Clear Connect Gateway Type X, supporting up to 200 Ketra devices per system. Rania connects through Clear Connect Type X with up to 64 fixtures on a single Romex circuit. Lumaris uses the same Clear Connect Type X wireless protocol. All three share the same HomeWorks Designer programming software, all three respond to the same keypads and schedules, and all three can be used in the same room together.
What about Palladiom keypads and shades?
Both are native to HomeWorks. Palladiom keypads are the most architectural in Lutron's lineup, with hand finished metal trims, custom engraving, and signature metal collection finishes. Palladiom shades are Lutron's exposed roller offering with the same metal finish program for hardware. They are designed to be seen, not hidden. HomeWorks programs them as one system. See keypad colors and finishes.
Can I control the system from my phone or my voice?
Yes. The Lutron App runs on iOS and Android and gives you full control of every light, every shade, and every scene from anywhere in the world. Voice control works through Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri via HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Josh.AI. We configure whichever ecosystem you already use as part of the install.
How do time clocks and astronomical schedules work?
HomeWorks knows the GPS coordinates of your home and calculates sunrise, sunset, civil dawn, and civil dusk for every day of the year. You can schedule any scene to trigger at any of those times, with offsets like "thirty minutes before sunset." Schedules adjust automatically across daylight saving time and across seasons. Conditional logic lets you build rules like "only run this scene if no one is home" or "only on weekdays." Most of our clients have around fifty to one hundred scheduled events running in the background that they never think about.
Will HomeWorks work with my Crestron, Control4, or Savant system?
Yes. HomeWorks ships native drivers for Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, URC, and Josh.AI. Lighting and shade events become full citizens of your control system, and your control system can call any HomeWorks scene as part of a larger automation. We handle the integration as part of every install.
Can existing wiring be reused, or does HomeWorks require a rip and replace?
Many existing installations can be upgraded without major demolition. HomeWorks QSX is backwards compatible with HomeWorks QS components and most existing QS keypads. For older HomeWorks Illumination systems, panels are typically replaced but existing in wall wiring can often be reused. For homes coming from standard dimmers, the change is more involved because the wiring changes from line voltage at every switch to centralized panels with low voltage runs to the keypads. We assess every existing installation as part of the consultation.
What does a HomeWorks installation cost?
HomeWorks pricing scales with the size of the home, the number of zones, the keypad family, and the lighting fixtures specified. A modest HomeWorks installation in a single family home might start in the high tens of thousands. A full Ketra plus Palladiom estate with motorized shades runs into the low to mid hundreds. Schedule a consultation and we'll walk the home, design the system, and provide a clear itemized quote with no surprises.
Do I have to be present for service or can changes happen remotely?
Most service is remote. Lutron Connect lets us see system status, push programming updates, and edit keypad button assignments from our office. New scenes, schedule changes, and button reassignments happen without a home visit. We only come on site for hardware issues or new physical installations.
Light You Feel. Control You Don't See.
