What Is Episode Audio?
Episode is professional grade audio at a sensible investment level. Scientifically engineered, available only through certified custom integrators, and well priced for the quality it delivers. It is the brand we specify when the goal is great sound throughout the home rather than reference grade audiophile listening in a single dedicated room. For the latter we install Focal.
Founded in 2006 and developed in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada, every Episode product is designed around three core principles: low distortion, wide dispersion, and flat frequency response. The result is sound that fills a room naturally, from speakers you barely notice.
Episode is also a brand you cannot buy at a big box store, online retailer, or any source other than a professional installer. That exclusivity matters. Every Episode system is custom designed for the room it lives in, with speaker placement, subwoofer crossovers, and calibration handled by an integrator who knows the technology and the architecture. The result is a finished system, not a box of parts.
Outstanding Sound Comes From Sound Construction
Three engineering choices set Episode Signature speakers apart from the speakers you find at retail. Every one of them is a deliberate departure from conventional design, validated through scientific testing rather than marketing intuition.
Forward Mounted Woofer
When a woofer sits too far back inside a speaker enclosure, sound tunnels and you lose the room filling quality that makes audio feel alive. Episode Signature speakers move the woofer forward and use flared baffles to widen dispersion. The result is even, natural sound from every seat in the room.
Ribbed Surround
Conventional smooth woofer surrounds tend to dimple and distort as the cone moves. That distortion shows up as muddy, sloppy bass. Episode replaces the smooth surround with a ribbed design that supports linear cone movement, producing cleaner, tighter low end response.
Elliptical Tweeter
A circular tweeter develops resonant frequencies that produce hot peaks or muddy dips at specific points in the response curve. Episode uses an elliptical tweeter to break up those resonances, spreading high frequencies evenly across a wider range. The audible difference is a cleaner, smoother top end you can hear immediately.
Designed With the National Research Council
Episode Signature was scientifically engineered in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada around three measurable principles that consistently correlate with how listeners describe excellent sound.
Low Distortion
Distortion is the difference between the signal that enters the speaker and the sound that comes out. Lower distortion means the music you hear is closer to what the artist actually recorded. Episode driver materials and motor structures are selected and tuned to keep distortion low across the entire usable volume range.
Wide Dispersion
Speakers with narrow dispersion only sound right when you sit directly in front of them. Episode's forward mounted drivers, flared baffles, and elliptical tweeters spread sound evenly across a wide listening area. Multiple seats, multiple rooms, and conversational layouts all sound right.
Flat Frequency Response
A flat response curve means the speaker reproduces every frequency at the volume the recording engineer intended. No artificial bass boost, no shouted midrange, no harsh treble. The result is sound that feels lifelike rather than processed, the way a great recording is supposed to feel.
A Complete Audio System, Not Just a Speaker
Episode is a full architectural audio line, with product tiers and form factors covering nearly every application a luxury home requires. We specify the right model for the room based on ceiling construction, listening distance, room acoustics, and how the space is actually used.
Signature Series
Episode's flagship architectural line. The 3 Series uses a polypropylene woofer with silk dome tweeter for all purpose performance. The 5 Series adds vacuum deposited titanium for greater clarity. The 7 Series, built for audiophiles, pairs a honeycomb fiberglass Nomex woofer with a pure titanium tweeter for the best in distributed audio or home theater sound.
CORE Series
Enhanced performance at a competitive price. The CORE 1 Series uses a vacuum formed polypropylene woofer with mylar dome tweeter. CORE 3 steps up to a fabric dome tweeter. CORE 5 features an injection molded polypropylene cone and Teteron dome tweeter. All weather and dual voice coil hybrid models extend coverage to bathrooms, exterior soffits, and stereo input zones.
Impression Series
Distributed audio engineered for design forward homes. Impression speakers require only a 4 inch ceiling cutout, leaving the architecture nearly untouched. Pair with the Impression Bandpass Subwoofer for a full range, total home audio experience that disappears into the ceiling.
Home Theater Speakers
Episode's dedicated home theater line uses high quality driver materials including a unique NCS woofer material paired with a ribbon tweeter. The result is best in class theater performance, designed for purpose built media rooms where dialogue clarity and dynamic range matter as much as bass impact.
Soundbars & TV Audio
A professionally installed television deserves audio that matches it. Episode soundbars are crafted with premium components and finished in materials that integrate cleanly under any flat panel. They are a single component upgrade that transforms how a great display actually sounds.
Subwoofers & Bass
No serious audio system is complete without proper low frequency reinforcement. Episode subwoofers cover everything from compact in cabinet models to dedicated theater grade enclosures. We size and place them based on the room volume, listener position, and the rest of the system they support.
Music Belongs Outside Too
Episode's outdoor and landscape lines extend whole home audio into patios, pool decks, gardens, and outdoor entertainment spaces. Weatherized rock, bollard, and satellite speakers paired with buried subwoofers deliver even coverage across the entire yard, integrated with the same control system that runs the audio inside the house.
Designed and installed correctly, outdoor Episode systems sound natural at conversation volume, fill the space at party volume, and survive Pacific Northwest weather year after year. We design every outdoor zone as a continuous extension of the indoor system, not an afterthought.
Built for Every Room You Use
Different rooms ask different things from a speaker. Kitchen audio needs to cut through ambient noise. Primary suites need to disappear into the architecture. Theaters need bass impact and dialogue intelligibility. We pair the right Episode model to each space.
Whole Home Distributed Audio
The same album streaming everywhere, or a different source in every room. Episode's wide dispersion drivers fill open floor plans evenly, while the Impression line tucks into design forward ceilings with a 4 inch aperture. We design zones around how families actually move through a home.
Great Rooms & Living Spaces
The largest acoustic challenge in most homes is the open kitchen, dining, and living combination. Forward mounted Episode drivers and even handed coverage make these spaces sound right from any seat in the room, not just the one closest to the speaker.
Home Theaters & Media Rooms
For dedicated theaters and media rooms, Episode's Home Theater line and Signature 7 Series deliver dialogue clarity, dynamic range, and the bass authority a finished theater requires. We tune every theater to the room with measurement microphones and proper calibration.
Primary Suites & Private Spaces
The bedroom, bath, and dressing room benefit from speakers that fade into the architecture. Paintable grilles and small aperture options keep the design uninterrupted, while still delivering the audio quality you expect in the rest of the house.
Outdoor Living & Entertainment
Patios, decks, pool areas, and landscape zones benefit from purpose built outdoor Episode speakers with buried subwoofers. Programmed correctly, the audio follows you outside seamlessly from the indoor system.
Home Offices & Studies
For the home office, library, or study, a small in ceiling Episode pair plus a discreet subwoofer delivers the sound quality of a dedicated stereo system without the visible hardware. Background music, podcasts, and video calls all benefit.
Episode Plays Well With Everything Else
Episode speakers are passive architectural products, which means they integrate cleanly with almost any audio source or distribution system. We typically pair Episode with one of three approaches based on how the home is being used.
For multi room streaming, Sonos Amp drives Episode speakers natively, giving you AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and grouped zone control through the Sonos app. For larger systems we specify dedicated multi channel matrix amplifiers that handle eight or more zones from one rack location.
Audio control integrates with Lutron HomeWorks keypads for one button scenes, with voice platforms including Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Josh.AI, and with whole home control systems including Crestron Home and Control4 when those platforms are part of the design. The end result is a system you operate with whatever interface you actually want to use.
Episode Is One of Several Audio Brands We Specify

Common Questions About Episode
What's the difference between the Signature and CORE Series?
Signature is Episode's premium architectural line. It uses higher grade driver materials, scientifically engineered enclosures, and the full Signature Construction package, including the forward mounted woofer, ribbed surround, and elliptical tweeter. CORE is a value tier that delivers excellent performance at a lower cost, well suited for whole home audio in larger projects where many zones are deployed.
Are Episode speakers paintable?
Yes. Episode architectural speakers ship with paintable grilles and bezels designed to be color matched to your ceiling or wall. Done correctly, the speakers visually disappear into the architecture. We recommend painting before installation rather than after.
Where can I buy Episode speakers?
Only through professional custom integrators. Episode is not sold in retail stores, big box electronics outlets, or general purpose online retailers. The exclusivity is intentional. It ensures every Episode system is properly designed and installed by someone trained in the line.
Do Episode speakers work with Sonos?
Yes. Episode architectural speakers are passive, which means they pair natively with the Sonos Amp for streaming and multi room control. This is one of the most common combinations we deploy. Sonos handles streaming, grouping, and app control. Episode handles the actual sound reproduction.
Can Episode be controlled by voice or app?
Yes, through the audio source. When paired with Sonos, you control Episode through the Sonos app, plus Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple AirPlay 2. When integrated with Lutron HomeWorks, audio scenes can be triggered from designer keypads alongside lighting and shades. Crestron and Control4 are also supported.
Are Episode speakers good for home theater?
The Signature 7 Series and the dedicated Episode Home Theater line are built specifically for theater applications. The Home Theater speakers use a unique NCS woofer material paired with a ribbon tweeter for the dialogue intelligibility and dynamic range a finished theater requires. We size and tune every theater to the room with measurement microphones and proper calibration.
Will Episode outdoor speakers survive Pacific Northwest weather?
Yes. Episode's outdoor and landscape lines are weatherized for sustained exposure to rain, humidity, and freeze cycles common to the Eastside. We install them with proper drainage, cabling, and mounting to maximize service life, and we use buried subwoofers to keep equipment out of view.
What's the warranty?
Episode covers most architectural and outdoor speakers under a long term warranty handled through ADI Global. Specific warranty terms vary by product family, and we register every system we install on behalf of our clients. We handle warranty claims directly when issues arise, so you never deal with a manufacturer call center.
Episode Installed by VIP Smart Homes
As a custom integrator, VIP Smart Homes designs, installs, and tunes Episode audio systems for residences across Seattle, Bellevue, and the Eastside. We take care of the entire system, from initial design through final calibration, so the experience is exactly what it should be. Beautiful, invisible, and always sounding right.
Every project starts with a room by room audio plan. Speaker selection, placement, subwoofer integration, and source distribution are all designed before a single hole is cut.
Episode systems are integrated with Sonos, Lutron HomeWorks, Crestron, Control4, and voice platforms based on what the home actually uses. The system feels like part of the architecture, not a separate gadget.
We tune every audio system with measurement microphones and proper room correction software. The system you live with on day one is calibrated for the room, not the showroom.
All wiring is hidden. All amplifiers live in a centralized rack location. Speakers are flush mounted with painted grilles. The finished install looks like the architecture was designed around the audio from the beginning.
